11. Let me simplify!

It’s supposed to be fun right?

By now, I know I’ve made it clear that my prime objective is to achieve The Great American Novel. That’s why my first personal blog post is a declaration of me challenging you, the reader (whether as an individual or the totality of American society). I know some random guy (with no prior novels published nor recognition) assuming he’s capable of achieving it, and unironically challenging you can come across as a subliminal insult to your intelligence and capability. If any of you feel that way, please know that’s quite the opposite of why I’ve invoked the idea of The Great American Novel in my rhetoric. There’s still a lot I have to explain and share with you, so I can understand if you’ve read my previous blog posts and felt somewhat offended. Hopefully, that perception will change in time.

I know, and I completely understand how all of this just reads as pretentious. For that aspect, all I can do is honestly apologize. I have to be pretentious, because the very idea of The Great American Novel is. Unfortunately, I believe it’s a tonal necessity for the story I plan to share with you. I accept whatever negative consequences that come about from your perception of my work.

While I can accept that, there is one mission I consider an absolute necessity, whether or not my message is clear. I will always refuse to accept the possibility that you misunderstand because I failed in communicating my thoughts with you clearly and effectively.

I care about how all this reads. That’s why actually conveying my point through written words is my highest priority. Recently, I’ve spent some time reviewing the personal blog posts I’ve shared, and honestly, they’ve worried me. Sure, the blog posts were a clear read for me, but what about you? The very possibility that one of you might misunderstand or feel like I’m just talking at you from what I’ve shared has made me reconsider all my previous blog posts. I’ve seen for myself how it all can read as me simply talking at or even down to you? To sound condescending or as if I’m only talking at you is not how I want any of this to read. That’s why for the next few blog posts, I want to simplify and explain my understanding of The Great American Novel, and how I plan to achieve it.
