What are you reading?
Hopefully by now you can see that reading is an innate value of this imprint. An imprint called All Dreamers Read can’t simply exist to promote its own published works. That would just be self-serving and misleading. Of course it would be great if you read anything published through the imprint, but there is a larger goal this imprint strives for. All Dreamers Read as an imprint is about the promotion of literacy and furthering a deep curiosity for reading however possible.
How will this imprint work towards that goal? It will start by setting a precedent, and following through on its own values. It will start by fostering a deep culture of reading from within, a culture that hopefully translates to everyone who engages with this imprint.
If you’ve seen the All Dreamers Read Instagram page you might have realized that it’s both the social page for the imprint and my author page. But on the All Dreamers Read Instagram page you will also see the highlighted story called Random Reads. As the name suggests, it’s essentially just a list of random books I myself, am currently reading, or have read. The name simply comes from my weird habit of reading all sorts of books, no matter the subject matter.
But it is through the books shared and listed under Random Reads, I wish to convey the values of the imprint myself. How could I create an imprint with a firm belief in the importance of literacy and reading without exemplifying what it means to read and write? I want to make sure I remain a consistent reader, and hone my own literacy skills too.
I will share all the different books I read, all the different notations I make, and maybe even my thoughts on the varying texts. I’ll share all of it because I want others to see what I read, and read too. It doesn’t even have to be the books shared through the Random Reads list, I only hope anyone who sees the imprint automatically feels encouraged to read something, anything. It might be a small step, but it’s a small step towards a continuous habit with immense benefits.
Sure, I will read certain books and share my notes with a specific intent, but for the most part, there isn’t a specific schema I have planned.
As of this published blog post, the following books have been listed on the All Dreamers Read Random Reads story:
- The Digital Sublime – Myth, Power, and Cyberspace by Vincent Mosco
- Relativity, The Special and General Theory by Albert Einstein
- Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger
- The Human Condition by Hannah Arendt
- Being and Time by Martin Heidegger
As the list is expanded on the highlighted story, a specific page will be created on the All Dreamers Read website. It will also provide more information than just a list of books and noted passages. Soon, there will be a page with all the listed books, their authors, and links to help anyone interested with a place to find them.
In time you will see if you haven’t already, that the promotion of literacy, reading as an action are both intrinsic to the success of this imprint.
